Passionate about Hawaiian plants and ecosystems, Michael J. De Motta has made cultural preservation a goal to educate as many people as possible about Hawaii's endangered plants, the ecosystem and traditional culture. Since 2006, he has served as Deputy Director of the Hawaii National Tropical Botanical Garden as Curator of Living Collections and Horticulture. With 20 years of experience, he actively participates in the cultivation, propagation and restoration of plants and ecosystems, in particular rare and endangered species. He is notably a member of the Board of Directors of multiple community non-profit organizations such as Na Pali Coast Ohana non-profit community organization dedicated to the preservation of the natural and cultural resources of Napali Coast State Park, Kaipuwai Foundation, dedicated to the sustainability of native Hawaiian ancestral knowledge, philosophies, and practices that are grounded in the primal hula traditions of Kaua'i. and Malama Koloa Foundation.
